Welcome

Cathedral City is experiencing robust growth, the expansion of commercial opportunities, and a purposeful refocus toward improving the quality of life for residents, visitors, and local small businesses. Councilmember Raymond Gregory has been vital in leading the city forward these past four years, and we need to keep him in office to see these movements continue.

About Raymond Gregory

District 5

District 5 is comprised of the Panorama and La Pasada neighborhoods, as well as East Rio Vista, most of the Verano development, and the Park David Senior Housing complex. Together, these neighborhoods make up approximately 20 percent of the city’s population.

Why Raymond Gregory?

For the past four years, Raymond Gregory has been your advocate and voice on the Cathedral City Council, serving as Mayor in 2021. Raymond has proven himself a steadfast supporter of the needs of residents and neighborhoods, using his experience in teamwork while working in the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department before retirement, as well as his business education, to get things done and promote policies, procedures and programs within city government to ensure sustained growth while being preeminently mindful of the needs for high-quality public safety, safe neighborhoods, and securing the right opportunities for our youth, seniors, and working-class residents.

About Raymond Gregory

During his tenure with the Sheriff’s Department, Raymond held many ranks and worked a variety of locations and functions, including patrol, jails, as a courtroom deputy, and an internal affairs investigator, eventually rising to the rank of Assistant Sheriff before retiring from law enforcement. Locally, he served as commander of the Sheriff’s Indio Station as it transitioned over to its current location in Thermal. As part of that assignment, he served as Chief-of-Police for the cities of Coachella and La Quinta.

Raymond has earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from California State University, San Bernardino, in Administration with a Management concentration, taking most of his classes at the Palm Desert Campus. He later earned a Master of Arts degree in Management from the University of Redlands.

He is married and his husband works for a local non-profit organization. He has two grown children and one grandchild.

When Raymond was elected to Cathedral City Council in 2018, he promised to bring proven leadership, a deep commitment to Cathedral City, the ability to build a consensus to get things done, an understanding of the issues, and to be your voice at City Hall. He has delivered on each of these and more.

Raymond took action to eliminate the unfair Panorama and Century Park taxes, he worked with residents to limit and regulate troublesome short-term vacation rentals, and he set about instituting stronger policies within city government to ensure transparency and compliance with existing laws and processes. Raymond has worked hard to improve the quality of life in Cathedral City, promoting public safety and supporting sustainable growth in Police, Fire, Ambulance, Code Compliance, and other vital departments. He has led the city in a refocus on neighborhood parks and smaller community events, like art pieces in the community parks, yoga in the amphitheater, public swimming at Cathedral High School during the summer break, and was a main proponent behind the new Panorama Dog Park.

But there is still work to do and Raymond is working to keep things moving in the right direction. Raymond serves as the city's representative on the Riverside County Transportation Commission and Chairs an important committee there, where he works to make sure the Coachella Valley gets its fair share of transportation funding and projects and is a strong proponent for continued development of daily rail service between the Coachella Valley and Los Angeles. Raymond also believes residents deserve to have a quality recreation program with dedicated funding that can't be reduced to cover other city needs when times get lean. He therefore has consistently supported city efforts to partner with the Desert Recreation District and bring a ballot measure for dedicated funding forward to the voters so they can decide whether they want to guarantee these services and contribute the needed funds to build a permanent recreation & community center in Cathedral City. The city has been experiencing a reawakening in the opening of new businesses and in residential construction, and Raymond continues to work to help promote and manage a balanced approach so that development continues at the right pace and the city continues to attract the right kinds of business.

There are so many great things that have begun, and many great opportunities just over the horizon. We need proven leaders like Raymond Gregory to continue to help guide Cathedral City as we face the challenges and prospects ahead.
